  So tell us a little bit about yourself.
Ben: So we focus on ladies, from 35 to 60yrs, on a one-to-one personal training basis and a semi-private personal training basis.
So, I didn’t go to university because I fell in love with a girl and I didn’t want to move away from her. I had always enjoyed fitness, my family had always been affiliated with sports and fitness and things like that. I started working the graveyard shift at a small gym, slowly I got more and more work as a fitness instructor. I got the equivalent in our industry of “head-hunted” by one of the big gyms who lured me into work more but be paid less – however get qualifications.
I was however always very determined that I knew what I was doing this for, that wasn’t to be a duty manager, or a club manager or to go into membership sales. I wanted to own my own one-to-one personal training studio.
So at the age of 22 I jumped out and started my own business. We slowly grew, bit by bit, until – if I am being overly critical of the industry – we got to the level most people get to. Where they have around 25 hours of one-to-one clients a week for themselves. Saturated in the mornings and evening, yet cannot find clients for this ‘middle-space’. At the same time life got serious, I proposed to my wife and set myself some goals. I wanted a family and I knew that this money A) wasn’t going to sustain it and B) I didn’t want to be a dad who worked every hour God had given me in this split shift pattern.
  How did you find Fitness Marketing Agency?
Ben: I researched people who were doing this well in different areas. I came across this guy in Sussex who was doing it really well, he had all these cool really expensive looking videos and he made it look like I wanted to go and train with his bootcamp. This was how I came across Ben Davies!
I arranged a phone call and it just so happened I googled him before. It just so happened that this was the same guy from the boot camps! It was great, it meant he had been in my shoes. He wasn’t just some internet guru – he had been in the trenches and done this.
When we spoke on the phone, cards on the table I got really scared. X amount of hundreds of pounds to be here, there and everywhere. It felt that there was no guarentee on this money I was spending coming back to me. I was like the worst client we could ever have sit in front of us as personal trainers! I just closed right up.
Time went on and sporadically Ben would check in with me and give me bits of advice. Every single time I implemented what he said, I earned more money. It was as simple as that – eventually I had to jump in. similar time to when I had first spoken to Ben on the phone were LIGHT YEARS ahead of me.
  What impact has it had on your business?
Ben: I remember an old business coach of mine telling a slot machine story. Saying, if you had a slot machine that for every fifty pound note you put in you got a hundred and fifty pounds back you wouldn’t mind feeding in fifties! Even if you were scrabbling around to find them. This is just like that. We put the money in and it saved our bacon. It started to bring clients back in again.
So before I was working with FMA we were roughly servicing 85-90 clients a week. We now do upwards of 120-130 clients a week. So that is a huge jump for us. But it is not just that. We were turning over roughly 9,500 and now we are much closer to 15,000. Ben and I have plans to make that 20,000.
  What would you say to those sitting on the fence?
Ben: If you are on the fence then you know you probably can afford it and do need it. I guess I am walking proof and there are many more people like me. I have known Ben for years, what he does works. So if you have the want, you have the desire, you have the passion to push your life and your fitness business to where you want it to be – I don’t know what else I can say but just do it!
